Parenting Puzzle of the Day:
My daughter is turning three this month, bless her. She is very much into dolls (among many other things) and I suspect that her friends from daycare are going to buy her a doll of some kind as her birthday present when they come to her party.
But I live in horror of Bratz, Barbie and Monster High, followed closely by Disney.
What to do? I want my daughter to have dolls, but I just don’t want her to have those sorts of dolls. Why jump onto the body image bandwagon one second earlier than I have to? Especially as some of her friends are a year or more older than her and may talk about this stuff.
I want to ask the mums to not buy these dolls. But is that implying something about their choices as parents? I don’t want to upset anyone. Neither do I want to take away a present that my daughter has received, which is hers.
